Chickenpox my toddler experience and what i used
Hi guys 😊 so last week my son had chickenpox and he was lucky enough to have a mild form, maybe is because of what i used or done . I want to say that this is what i done and you should always speak to your doctor and if you have any concerns and you are not happy with what your doctor said go to your closest A&E centre, it doesn`t hurt to get a second opinion i learned that from my own experience .
DEFINITION : Chickenpox is a contagious disease with a mild evolution. It is produced by a virus who characterise itself by skin rash that forms small itchy blisters, which eventually scab over. It starts with low fever and headache in the (first 2 days) then red spots appear and by 3 day they become blisters. Blisters then transform in scabs which if they are not infected or broken not gonna leave scars .
The number of Chickenpox can vary from less then 100 to 500 and they appear on all body surface, and my mum always said to me to be careful because what is on the outside can be on the inside as well .
TREATMENT your toddler will need to stay away from school, nursery until all spots have crusted over . Diet should be at the beginning very easy like milk, soups, vegetables purees and fruits.I gave my son in the first 2 days vegetable puree, cucumber and fruits, obviously he did not eat everything on the plate because he had very poor appetite which is common with chickenpox. If your child has upsetting blisters in the mouth give them only soft foods , after the fertile period of chickenpox has past and your child is no longer in discomfort he can eat as normal . To avoid the infection of the spots it is recommended not to scratch and to cut the nails short and to wash the hands with soap and warm water . To prevent scratching i used these 3 things
From all three i definitely recommend Piriton it stops the itch straight away plus the pharmacist told me that helps to fight the virus from inside ( before you give your child any medicine always talk to a doctor or pharmacist ) i gave my son 2.5 ml every 6 hours or 4 hours day time because night time he really didn`t need it , so as soon as he woke up i gave it to him hidden in a little bit of orange juice because he doesn`t like the taste on it`s own . I used Virasoothe at the pharmacist recommendation now and then day time only if he felt itchy before the next Piriton dose and i put some Sudocrem on the bigger blisters that looked a bit red ( but not swallowed, if they are red and swallowed around go and see a doctor they may be infected and you may need antibiotic ) if your child doesn`t feel itchy you don`t have to put anything on them , but make sure you watch them because they may say they are not itchy and as soon as you turn your head they scratch 😀.
HYGIENE i changed my son clothes and bed sheets every day while he was covered with blisters plus i covered even the couch with soft cotton bed sheets so if he seats it`s cooling for his skin . For bath time i really kept it short and every 2 days because at the beginning i read that is good to soak for 15 min with oats but for some reason it didn`t work for my son , after that his skin was more itchy and the blisters became bigger , this happened first 2 days and when i stopped bathing him the blisters start to appear more smaller and less in number .
COMPLICATIONS my son really didn`t have any , but i read that if you are not careful with the hygiene and you scratch a lot can become very dangerous and even life-threatening but that is very rare . I recommend to visit NHS website and search for chickenpox they explain it really well i read it myself .
For now i`m just waiting for all the scabs to fall off and i think i have to use Bio oil because wanted or not some of them got caught in his clothes and pull off before they were ready . Hope this helps and if you have any tip for chickenpox scars please leave them in a comment below i will appreciate them 😉 😗 💋 💖
